Ancient Grains & Seasonal Nourishment: A New Chapter at The Jericho Kitchen

This autumn, The Jericho Kitchen is delighted to welcome Caroline Pierrepoint to The Cart Shed for a brand new series of classes celebrating ancient grains, heritage ingredients and deeply nourishing seasonal cooking.

Caroline brings with her a wealth of experience and a long-standing commitment to real food. Many will know her as the founder of Pierrepoints in Goring and The Goring Grocer – businesses rooted in quality produce, thoughtful sourcing and community connection. Her work has always championed independent suppliers, traditional methods and ingredient-led cooking, values that sit beautifully within The Jericho Kitchen ethos.

This new strand marks an exciting evolution for our cookery school: a deeper exploration of ancient grains, sustainable food systems and the pleasure of cooking with ingredients that have nourished communities for generations.

Cooking with Ancient Grains in Oxfordshire

Ancient grains such as spelt, einkorn, emmer, rye and heritage wheats are enjoying a renaissance – not as a trend, but as a return to something essential. These grains offer depth of flavour, improved digestibility for many people and a closer connection to regenerative agriculture.

In these immersive cookery classes in South Oxfordshire, Caroline will guide you through:

·       Cooking confidently with ancient and heritage grains

·       Understanding flavour, texture and nutrition

·       Incorporating grains into everyday seasonal meals

·       Moving away from ultra-processed staples

·       Building balanced, nourishing dishes from the ground up

This is slow food in its truest sense – thoughtful, rooted and deeply satisfying.

Nourishment, Passion & The Jericho Kitchen Ethos

At The Jericho Kitchen, our passion has always been about more than recipes. It is about connection: to land, to producers, to community and to ourselves. Caroline’s classes strengthen this vision – supporting our commitment to reducing supermarket reliance and celebrating local, regenerative suppliers wherever possible.

These new ancient grain cookery workshops reflect our belief that good food begins with good ingredients. They invite you to rediscover grains not as a side dish, but as the heart of the plate – warming porridges, beautiful breads, vibrant salads, comforting stews and slow-baked dishes full of character.

There is something deeply grounding about working with flour milled from heritage wheat or simmering whole grains until tender. It reconnects us with food traditions that prioritise patience, flavour and care.
