Falling for Flavour: My Top Pick for Oxford’s Newest Cake Delight
I absolutely love my job, I love finding new products, I love meeting people and I love finding great food. One of the places where I seem to find all of the above is No2 North Parade right here in the centre of Oxford.
Now my latest find has been in business for 2 years but for some reason I have only discovered my latest obsession in the last month! I regularly visit No2 because I think of all the shops in Oxford it manages to source and attract the most amazing quality products.
The name of my latest obsession if a company called Cloud Cakes. They are the lightest most exquisite cheesecake you will ever eat; I promise you!
Founded by Yu Li, who relocated from Beijing, the bakery offers innovative interpretations of regional cheesecakes, focusing on high-quality ingredients and delightful textures. Joined by neighbour and artist Dong Yuan, the bakery combines meticulous craftsmanship and a passion for culinary creativity. Their offerings are not only delicious but also visually stunning, providing a taste experience that feels like “a bite from the clouds”.
You may have come across them, the charming owner Yu Li supplies 2 North Parade, Crepe Affaire in Summertown, Lesley Ford Hamper, R&R in Abingdon and the Village Café in Kidlington so if you are near any of these guys then please drop in try a slice – you won’t be disappointed!
Last week I was lucky enough to meet up with Yu Li and be the lucky recipient of a whole cloud cake, I couldn’t believe my luck – the only ask for me to be the guinea pig for her latest flavour – a passion fruit cloud cake – it was UTTERLY divine. My favourite flavour so far.
We got chatting and it turns out we have so much in common and we both left wishing we had met each other much sooner. Needless to say, we are now going to be working together hopefully on something that might turn out to be rather special – more to come!
