Our Food Heroes
Here at The Jericho Kitchen, we believe that great food starts with exceptional ingredients and our suppliers play a huge part in making this possible.
We are proud to work with a community of passionate and dedicated producers who share our commitment to quality, sustainability and freshness.
From local farms that provide us with organic vegetables, to artisanal bakers who craft the most exquisite bread, our suppliers are at the heart of what we do. We carefully select businesses that prioritise ethical practices, whether that means free-range farming, reducing food miles or using traditional methods that celebrate the craft of food-making.
Our meats are sourced from suppliers that emphasise high welfare standards, ensuring not just superior taste, but also a process of which we can be proud.
By choosing to work with these amazing suppliers, we’re not simply elevating the flavours on your plate – we’re supporting a network of small businesses that share our values and love for great food. When you learn to cook with us, you’re part of this story too, helping to sustain these incredible producers and their work.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our suppliers for their dedication and craft. Together, we’re aiming to create something truly special at The Jericho Kitchen. For our customers, we hope every bite tells the story of the care and effort that goes into making your experience unforgettable.
So, here are some our heros (the list keeps on growing!):
WildFarmed – The Flour
We source all our flour from Wildfarmed, a regenerative farming and food business that grows food in a nature-friendly way that is better for you and the planet.
We are a stockist for the T65 or 00 flour, plain and strong bread flours – outstanding quality and definitely worth purchasing at the Cart Shed after any of our classes
Ogglio – The Olive Oil
Literally one of the best olive oils outside of Italy (in our humble opinion!) Guiseppe’s olive grove in Sicily supplies this medicinal gem used in all our classes – it tastes DELICIOUS and is utterly joyful.
No. 2 North Parade Produce store
Pete and Vicky have run this shop since 2013. Both are deeply passionate about quality, sustainability and community. They focus on sourcing fresh, seasonal and responsibly produced goods from local farmers and artisans, with most products coming from within a 25km radius. Their ethos emphasises the importance of provenance and the environmental care taken by their suppliers. They prioritise low food miles, minimal packaging and working with growers that maintain soil health and biodiversity.
They stock local fruit and vegetables, cheeses, wines, beers, fresh pasta, breads and much more! The more unusual or out-of-season produce is sourced from Natoora.
Gatineau – The Bread
If you want great bread, then we say go to Gatineau. There are other bakeries springing up in Oxford that are excellent like Hamblin on Iffley Road but feel loyal to our friends at Gatineau. Established in 2007 they emphasise high-quality ingredients, creative innovation and meticulous attention to detail.
Sustainability and a commitment to quality are central to Gatineau’s ethos. The team is passionate about sourcing authentic ingredients and fostering an environment that nurtures artisanal skills. Additionally, they aspire to train the next generation of bakers and patisserie chefs, ensuring the continuation of their craft. Best bread, for me!, outside of France or Italy
Alcocks The Butchers – The Meat
I have been using this butchers for the last 20 years. They are constantly excellent and, with meat from farms bordering the Cart Shed, we can safely say we know the course of our meats.
Chalk Stream Foods – The Fish
Chalk Stream Foods in Hampshire is centered on sustainability, quality and preserving the unique environment of the chalk streams. They source rainbow trout from the River Test and River Itchen, two iconic chalk streams known for their crystal-clear water and ideal conditions for trout farming.
The Plant Workshop – Candles and soaps
When you walk into the Cart Shed you will be greeted by the wonderful smelling candles that we always light from this amazing company! We love working closely with Steve and Dave and we are often the lucky recipients of extra little gifts for our support – so much love!
The Plant Workshop’s candles and soaps stand out due to their handcrafted nature, high-quality ingredients and sustainable production methods. Produced in their Scottish Highlands workshop, these items are created with attention to detail, focusing on luxury and eco-friendliness.
The Other Bits!
Of course, there are other supplies, but these are our main ones. For our Mexican classes we us a company called Cool Chilli and for unusual ingredients we always head to Sous Chef because they literally have everyone under one roof.
I personally try and stay away from Amazon I really don’t feel connected to it in any way, and I think it is so important to support real people working hard in real businesses.
We do shop in Sainsburys and Waitrose for standard items like tin tomatoes (always Mutti plum) or spices for example, but it is just trying to make the balance lean more to the above.
So, I hope that you find this useful and of course we will add to it over time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and this is our first heartfelt draft.
Good quality ingredients, simple recipes and lots of love makes eating a joyous and healthy experience.
Please do share with us any other businesses that you use that we may not even know about – it is all about spreading the positive word!
