When you gift a cookery class at The Jericho Kitchen this Christmas, you’re giving far more than just a voucher – you’re inviting someone to slow down, savour the simple pleasures of life and become part of a community that celebrates real food and local suppliers. We have listed all our wonderful suppliers at the end of this piece – please do take a look at their websites, thank you.

Nestled in the converted barn of The Cart Shed in South Oxfordshire, our cookery school is built around one clear idea: cooking doesn’t have to be stressful, showy or overly technical. Instead, it should be relaxed, joyful and rooted in quality ingredients and good company. We believe that when you strip back the noise, you rediscover what really matters – the smell of fresh herbs, the touch of a wooden spoon, the warmth of a well-set table and the laughter that follows a shared meal.

When you purchase one of our gift vouchers this holiday season, you’re giving a meaningful experience. Picture the lucky recipient stepping through the barn door, receiving a warm welcome with a drink in hand, and leaving their nerves behind. They’ll join a friendly group of likeminded people and be guided by our passionate, experienced teachers – experts who bring joy, technique and a genuine love of cooking to every class.
In the meantime, you’re supporting something bigger than just one meal. We work with local farmers, independent growers and artisan suppliers around Oxfordshire. Every voucher helps us continue to build a healthier local food economy. You’re helping our friends grow, our produce flourish and our community thrive. It’s cooking with purpose.

We offer a wide range of classes for all abilities – from beginners who’ve never held a knife in their hand, to confident cooks wanting to explore fire, flavours and world cuisines. Whether someone attends a “Cooking On Fire” class under open flame, or dives into a vibrant “Thai Fundamentals” session, the experience is the same: hands-on, immersive and deeply satisfying.

And for those who might feel a little hesitant? No problem. We know that walking in for your first class can feel a bit unfamiliar. But by the time the morning’s over, confidence will have grown, smiles will have formed and friendships may have begun. That’s the magic of cooking together.

So, this Christmas, be bold. Gift an experience that will be remembered – a seat at our table, where good food meets good company, where local ingredients meet global flavours, and where one afternoon becomes a memory. Let someone unwrap the promise of a relaxed kitchen, a rustic barn, and a warm community. Let them find themselves smiling over herbs, chopping vegetables, mastering a technique – and walking out feeling inspired.
Visit our website to purchase a beautifully wrapped gift voucher, designed for all skill levels and delivered with care, or you can send an email gift voucher that will drop into the lucky recipient’s inbox on the day and time you choose.

The best gifts aren’t things – they’re experiences. They’re moments of joy. They’re the simple pleasures rediscovered.

🌿 Our Community of Growers & Makers

At The Jericho Kitchen, everything we do begins with people – the farmers, growers, producers and craftspeople who share our belief that food made slowly, with care and connection, simply tastes better.

We’re proud to source as much as possible from our local community, building real relationships with those who grow, rear and make across Hampshire and Oxfordshire (as well as our friends up in Scotland at The Plant Workshop!). These are the souls behind our slow food:
So, here are some our heroes (the list keeps on growing!):

Worthy Earth – The Vegetables https://www.worthy-earth.co.uk

We have supporting Harrison and the Worth Earth team since they started in 2018. We absolutely love Worthy Earth for their vegetables, herbs and some fruit because they grow everything with care, love, and respect for the planet. Their produce is seasonal, chemical-free and full of real flavour – just as nature intended. Supporting Worthy Earth means supporting local, sustainable farming and a future that’s good for both people and the Earth. Oh and they are based just up the road from us in Bletchingdon!

North Aston Farm – The Meat, Kefir and milk https://www.northastonfarms.co.uk

We’re proud to work with North Aston Dairy & Farm, a truly exceptional smallholding in North Oxfordshire whose passion for sustainable farming and quality produce shines through in everything they do.

Their lamb and beef are among the finest we’ve ever used – beautifully reared, full of flavour and a real reflection of the care that goes into every stage of their farming. We also use their kefir, milk and ice cream, all made on-site using traditional methods that respect both the land and the animals.
The farm is now expanding its shop to include locally sourced pork and chicken, further strengthening its role as a hub for truly local, ethical food.
Working with North Aston is a reminder of why we do what we do at The Jericho Kitchen – building real connections with farmers who care deeply about the food they produce and the communities they feed.

Oxfordshire Venison https://www.oxfordshirevenison.co.uk

We love working with Nick from Oxfordshire Venison, whose exceptional produce brings true depth and character to our menus. His venison is not only of outstanding quality – beautifully tender, rich and full of flavour – but also sourced just a few miles from The Cart Shed, making it as local as it is delicious.

Nick’s careful, ethical approach to field and game perfectly reflects our values at The Jericho Kitchen – food that honours the land, the season, and the people behind it.

Ogglio – The Olive Oil https://www.ogglio.org

Literally one of the best olive oils outside of Italy (in our humble opinion!) Guiseppe’s olive grove in Sicily supplies this medicinal gem used in all our classes – it tastes DELICIOUS and is utterly joyful.

No. 2 North Parade Produce store. https://www.2northparade.com

Pete and Vicky have run this shop since 2013. Both are deeply passionate about quality, sustainability and community. They focus on sourcing fresh, seasonal and responsibly produced goods from local farmers and artisans, with most products coming from within a 25km radius. Their ethos emphasises the importance of provenance and the environmental care taken by their suppliers. They prioritise low food miles, minimal packaging and working with growers that maintain soil health and biodiversity.

They stock local fruit and vegetables, cheeses, wines, beers, fresh pasta, breads and much more! The more unusual or out-of-season produce is sourced from Natoora.

Gatineau – The Bread https://www.gatineau.uk.com

If you want great bread, then we say go to Gatineau. There are other bakeries springing up in Oxford that are excellent like Hamblin on Iffley Road but feel loyal to our friends at Gatineau. Established in 2007 they emphasise high-quality ingredients, creative innovation and meticulous attention to detail.
Sustainability and a commitment to quality are central to Gatineau’s ethos. The team is passionate about sourcing authentic ingredients and fostering an environment that nurtures artisanal skills. Additionally, they aspire to train the next generation of bakers and patisserie chefs, ensuring the continuation of their craft. Best bread, for me!, outside of France or Italy.

Chalk Stream Foods – The Fish https://www.chalkstreamfoods.co.uk

Chalk Stream Foods in Hampshire is centered on sustainability, quality and preserving the unique environment of the chalk streams. They source rainbow trout from the River Test and River Itchen, two iconic chalk streams known for their crystal-clear water and ideal conditions for trout farming.

The Plant Workshop – Candles and soaps https://www.theplantworkshop.co.uk

When you walk into the Cart Shed you will be greeted by the wonderful smelling candles that we always light from this amazing company! We love working closely with Steve and Dave and we are often the lucky recipients of extra little gifts for our support – so much love!
The Plant Workshop’s candles and soaps stand out due to their handcrafted nature, high-quality ingredients and sustainable production methods. Produced in their Scottish Highlands workshop, these items are created with attention to detail, focusing on luxury and eco-friendliness.

The Other Bits!

Of course, there are other supplies, but these are our main ones. For our Mexican classes we us a company called Cool Chilli and for unusual ingredients we always head to Sous Chef because they literally have everyone under one roof.

I personally try and staff away from Amazon I really don’t feel connected to it in any way, and I think it is so important to support real people working hard in real businesses.

So, I hope that you find this useful and of course we will add to it over time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and this is our first heartfelt draft. Good quality ingredients, simple recipes and lots of love makes eating a joyous and healthy experience.

Please do share with us any other businesses that you use that we may not even know about – it is all about spreading the positive word!
